The Falklands War: 40 Years On | BBC

The British troops who died serving in the Falklands War 40 years ago will continue to be remembered, veterans have said. Following the Argentine invasion of the British overseas territory in the South Atlantic in April 1982, former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher announced a taskforce of more than 100 civilian and military ships would be prepared to sail to recapture the islands. The conflict claimed the lives of 255 UK servicemen, 649 Argentines, and three Falklands civilians. On the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War, the BBC’s defence correspondent Jonathan Beale revisits the archive.
