Single Mom Plans Scavenger Hunt For Daughter To Discover Their First Home

A girl who shared a single room with her mom at her grandparents' house for the first eight years of her life screamed and jumped for joy when a scavenger hunt led her to their first ever home. Marissa, from Houston, Texas, was celebrating her graduation with big career ambitions ahead, when she discovered she was pregnant with Mireya just four days later. Marissa put her career on hold and immediately focused on motherhood, moving into her parents' home and only taking contract jobs so she could give her daughter the love she felt she needed. As the years progressed, Mireya had a wonderful early childhood living with her grandparents, Marissa said, but the proactive single mom "felt an urge, a push... a desire for more." It became clear Mireya was outgrowing the space, too, so Marissa started to work more overtime and took travel opportunities within the healthcare IT field she works in. Having quietly searched and found a place that was perfect, Marissa made the decision to purchase the home New Years Eve 2025, starting 2026 off on a good footing. On January 4 Marissa told her daughter they were heading off for a scavenger hunt, that took the pair around the city, and ended outside their new home.
