A woman suffering from cancer was given a huge surprise when she was presented with a wig made from her friends’ hair. Dana McSwain, 36, from Charlotte, North Carolina, had been struggling to come to terms with her Stage 2 metastatic breast cancer diagnosis, and so she turned to a local Facebook group of friends and moms to ask for advice. Dana said she had looked into potentially purchasing a wig for herself, but the cost proved to be too much. On the private Facebook group, Dana would explain the kinds of wigs she liked - and one day she got a call from a group member and mother of one of her daughter’s friends, Carol Daley Cook, who later arrived at her front door. Dana said she noticed Carol’s hair had been cut, but when she opened the package at her home, on July 18, Dana discovered the exact wig she had wanted - a crown wig, not a full wig, which could be worn under hats. It was then that Carol informed her that about 20 financial donors from the group had made the wig possible and some had even donated their hair. Hair donors included Carol, Sara Curry, Georgia Dabbs the seven-year-old daughter of one group member, Kate Harrison, Ashley Broome and Tamara Brown. Dana said the wig has helped her feel her old self again, as she has two little daughters who look up to princesses and mermaids who have long, flowing locks.
