A father who left the U.S. 18 years ago thinking he’d never come back returned for the first time in nearly two decades to surprise his daughter. While Simah Shazeen was waiting for family members at Kansas City International Airport, she suddenly spotted her dad Mohammed Nawaz walking towards her. After the initial shock and surprise, the moment suddenly clicked leaving the 34-year-old immediately sobbing from the emotion of the surprise. Mohammed’s brother passed away 18 years ago and he was unsure if he could ever return to the U.S. without his sibling by his side – with even just thinking about it getting too much. Dad Mohammed now lives in the U.K., but Simah has been based in the U.S. for over 18 years herself, living in Kansas City, Missouri. Through a combination of life events and the coronavirus pandemic, Simah – who would previously travel to visit her dad – had not seen her father for five years. During the pandemic, Simah was in and out of hospital, and though family members tried their best to come and visit, travel restrictions made visiting impossible. When borders started to open up again, though, Simah's mom and two of her six sisters, Ikrah and Hafsah, planned a visit to see her. While things were in the works, Simah had no reason to suspect her father would ever be there, as even the thought of the trip was very sensitive for Mohammed. But given how much he knew his daughter needed him, he secretly purchased a flight along with his wife and daughters. When they got to the airport, Ikrah, Hafsah and their mom came out first to collect their luggage, telling security about the surprise and asking if their father could wait in arrivals. After the three women had greeted Simah, Hafsah said she had forgotten her glasses and headed back toward the plane. As Hafsah then came back with Mohammed, Simah caught her father's eye and the moment got too much for her as she struggled to breathe as she headed to her father for a hug.
