Deer Adrift In Atlantic Ocean Rescued By Surfers

A group of surfers helped rescue a stricken deer who was struggling to keep his head above water off the Atlantic Coast. The stricken animal was up to its neck in choppy, freezing waters in Belmar, New Jersey, USA. Video filmed by beachgoers shows the critter treading water as it is lashed by waves striking its side. After one concerned citizen rushed into the ocean to try and haul the deer out of the water, the receding tide made it impossible to get to the animal. And with the water touching 50 Fahrenheit, it proved too cold for bathers. With the deer drifting further out – up to a football fields length away from the beach, according to some eye witnesses – hope was beginning to be lost. But a group of surfers, alerted to the deer’s plight by the commotion on the beach waded out to try and pluck the deer to safety.
