The video was shot by Dakota's owner, Ashley Johnson, 36, who explained that the pair share a very special bond. Ashley is a professor who teaches night classes, and so she often leaves Dakota with Sylvia, who lives next door to them in North Carolina, until she returns home from work. On one particular evening, on April 5, Ashley decided to take out her phone and record just how difficult Dakota then finds it to leave. She uploaded the video online, where it soon amassed more than 1.5 million views and 9,000 comments from all over the world.
