The Weeknd Hit With Lawsuit Over 2018 Song 'Call Out My Name'

Suniel Fox and Henry Strange are suing The Weeknd for his 2018 song Call Out My Name. Fox and Strange are suing them for copyright infringement, claiming the song is similar to their song Vibeking. According to the lawsuit, the songs have the same time signature and similar tempos. The duo also claims that the songs have similar hook melodies, even though they have different key signatures. Fox and Strange say they sent Vibeking to an engineer working with The Weeknd in April 2015. The engineer allegedly told Fox and Strange that The Weeknd thought the song was “fire”. Despite this, they never received any license or agreement to authorize The Weeknd’s use of the song. According to Law 360, Fox and Strange have records of correspondence to support their case.
