After an abysmal season offensively, the Minnesota Vikings need more than minor tweaks heading into 2026. Kevin O’Connell is a play-calling head coach, which often raises the question of what the offensive coordinator’s role truly is. In this case, Wes Phillips is essentially doing the same job that once got O’Connell hired, but without meaningful results. The offense failed to develop its young quarterback or consistently design plays that leaned into his strengths while masking his limitations. If the Vikings want to right the ship, it may be time for O’Connell to make a difficult but necessary change on his offensive staff.
