A dad is surprised with a portrait of his newborn baby daughter being held by his late dad who had battled illness to be alive for her birth but passed away just weeks before. Andrew Prue's father, David, suffered with health issues for a number of years, but the one thing keeping him going during his final days was the thought of meeting his granddaughter. David, 62, suffered from kidney failure, and after one dialysis session, Andrew, 32, and wife Alexis, 27, from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, received a call saying he could fight no longer. David passed away on August 25, 2021, and because Alexis was around eight months into her pregnancy, she could not attend the funeral. Then, on September 29, she and Andrew welcomed their daughter, India, into the world. Alexis knew how much losing his father had hurt Andrew - particularly since he had never gotten to meet India, for whom he had recorded a number of videos for when she is older. She decided to commission a portrait of David holding India, which she then presented to him wrapped on January 3, Andrew's birthday. Having read a note about how proud Alexis was of the father and husband he'd become, Andrew unwrapped the gift and turned the canvas over. As soon as he saw the image staring back at him – his father, holding a young India with a bow in her hair – he immediately began to well up.
