A 10-person veterinary team performed a procedure they had never undertaken before - extracting a huge blanket from a 12ft python. In the amazing footage, captured by staff at Las Vegas Veterinary Specialty Center (LVVSC) in Nevada, the blanket can be seen slowly being pulled from the snake’s jaws. According to the center, the seven-year-old python, Aurora, had swallowed the blanket while she was eating a rabbit which they believe left the fabric smelling like her food. When Aurora’s owner brought her to LVVSC in late September, staff said they had never seen a case like it, and there was no initial way of telling how big the blanket might be. X-rays eventually showed the scale of the problem, and so Dr. Nicole Smee and her team opted for a scoping procedure, sending a camera down the snake’s throat and trying to retrieve the undigested blanket by pulling it out. The entire procedure took around 30 minutes, Dr. Smee said, and by sharing her footage, she hopes to let other snake owners know that there are options available should a similar accident occur.
