In a corner of Germany traditionally best known for cuckoo clocks, funny hats and Black Forest gateau, SC Freiburg are currently once again punching above their apparent weight in the Bundesliga. The difference, this season, is that they are no longer doing so under Christian Streich. The iconic coach stepped down in the summer after 12-and-a-half years in charge, succeeded – in club-typical style – by former midfield stalwart Julian Schuster. And the big question as to how the team would transition into the post-Streich era looks to have been resolved already.
