Match Group Is Planning To Build A Dating ‘Metaverse’

Match Group has outlined its plans for building a dating “metaverse” and virtual avatar-based dating experiences. Tinder recently introduced a new “Explore” section that enables users to have more interactive experiences. Match Group plans to expand Tinder and Explore to include a virtual goods-based economy. This virtual economy will be supported by Tinder’s new in-app currency Tinder Coins. Tinder Coins can be used to buy in-app products such as Boosts and Super Likes. Match Group also talked about leveraging Hyperconnect, a Korean social app maker that it acquired earlier this year. Hyperconnect previously tested a dating “metaverse” experience called Single Town. The app allowed users to interact in virtual spaces like a bar using real-time audio. Match Group said that it wants to leverage this type of interactivity across its portfolio. This next phase of dating apps, in particular, is going to be all about richer, more organic and more akin to real-life ways of discovering, meeting and getting to know people, Shar Dubey, Match Group CEO
