BIZTODAY China-EV Fast Charging

High-voltage fast-charging EVs ramp up China’s auto sector 【Voice_over】 From batteries to charging piles to the vehicles themselves, China’s EV industry is zooming towards the future with high-voltage, fast-charging technology. In August, Chinese battery giant CATL released a new battery that can charge to a range of 400 kilometers in just 10 minutes. And for the vehicles, more Chinese auto makers are adopting an 800-volt electric architecture. Higher voltage architectures allow motors, inverters, and other core components to run more efficiently, which also results in faster charging. 【Sound_bite】 Zhao Yuhui, chief technology officer, Chinese electric automobile brand ZEEKR: "We can say 2023 is the first year of the 800-volt era for the industry. For a conservative estimate, 800-volt electrical systems will become a mainstream feature of pure electric cars in the coming two years." 【Voice_over】 To accommodate vehicles with higher voltage electric systems and more powerful batteries, China’s EV charging pile manufacturers have stepped up to the challenge. Some firms have already established an extensive network of high-voltage fast-chargers. 【Sound_bite】 He Bo, President, Data center facility and critical power, Huawei: "We have deployed these chargers in more than 24 cities. The superchargers have been well received among car owners and users." 【Voice_over】 According to those in the industry, high-voltage fast-chargers can fill up a battery in as little as 15 minutes, just one-fourth of what it takes for traditional fast chargers.
