The incredible moment a pod of friendly dolphins chases off a shark to protect a group of divers has been caught on camera. Dennis Tierney, a chef, lives on the remote UNESCO World Heritage listed Lord Howe Island off the east coast of Australia - surrounded by some of the world’s most pristine water. As he set out to go diving at Balls Pyramid - one of the world’s most remote diving spots - a pod of dolphins started to frolic and play around the boat he was on. After he and the other divers jump into the water they are immediately surrounded by the dolphins while circling deeper below them were a number of Galapagos sharks. While the majority stayed deep enough not to cause alarm, one curious shark was brave enough to inch closer to the divers. Sensing the shark was getting too close, in the blink of an eye the friendly dolphins quickly lose interest in the divers and dive straight towards the shark chasing it away. Dennis, who shares his unique recipes and adventure stories on his social pages The Stranded Chef, filmed the rare sight in May 2018.
