A new study has found that dogs that get little exercise are six times more likely to develop canine cognitive dysfunction (CCD). CCD is a condition related to the aging of a dog’s brain that can lead to memory loss, disorientation and confusion. Researchers from the University of Washington examined 15,000 dogs for the study. Dogs whose owners indicated a higher level of physical activity were at significantly less risk of developing the condition. The results show that exercise can have protective effects against the development of cognitive dysfunction. Dogs are also more likely to develop the condition as they get older
