Southern Africa is reeling from its worst drought in years

Crops are failing and food supplies are under threat. 24 million people in the region are at risk of hunger, malnutrition and water scarcity. The drought has been amplified by the combined effects of climate change and the warming climate phenomenon El Niño. Malawi, Zimbabwe and Zambia have all declared a state of disaster. ​​It’s the fourth time in as many years that Malawi has taken this step.
