Eggnog is a holiday staple and has been for hundreds of years, but what’s the history behind it? Eggnog, a drinkable form of custard, originated in medieval Britain and was popular amongst locals. The name Eggnog comes from the words ‘noggin,’ a wooden cup, and ‘grog,’ meaning a strong beer. The drink spread to the US when the early colonists from Britain arrived on American shores. The drink became popular at Christmas due to locally farmed eggs and milk, as well as rum and whisky, being readily available. Since then, the drink has spread around the world, with people creating their own recipes.
