Despite the Spanish Grand Prix being one of the oldest in Formula 1 history, only 13 Spaniards have competed in F1. Here are five of the best Spanish drivers to race in Formula 1. 5. Luis Perez-Sala Perez-Sala drove for Minardi in his rookie season in 1988 after shining in F3000 in 1986 and 1987. He scored his only point in F1 when he finished sixth at Silvertone in 1989 but was left without a drive for 1990. 4. Jaime Alguersuari Alguersauri was the reigning British F3 champion when he replaced Sebastien Bourdais at Toro Rosso in 2009. Seventh-placed finishes in Italy and Korea were his best results but not enough to keep him in the sport beyond 2011. 3. Pedro de la Rosa De la Rosa scored a point on his F1 debut with Arrows in the 1999 Australian GP, his only point of the season. The Spaniard went on to make 104 starts in F1 and finished on the podium once, following a second-place finish at the Hungarian GP. 2. Carlos Sainz Carlos Sainz entered F1 with Torro Rosso in 2015 and has since raced for Renault, McLaren, and currently, Ferrari. Sainz narrowly beat his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in the standings in his first season but has struggled in his second year. 1. Fernando Alonso Alonso is not only the only Spanish driver to win an F1 race, but he is also a double world champion. Alonso is also currently sixth on the all-time leaderboard for race wins with 32 wins and is a double F1 champion.
