Program Director of Soccer at Somerset Academy Canyons, Coach Eric De Sousa teaches the ability to maximize the space created to shoot by using Misdirection. Similar to Progression 1, the player will have their ball squared up to a pole representing the defender. Once a player chooses a skill move they would like to perfect, they face up the defender by getting their feet in a game-like position. When the coach gives the audible cue, the player uses the skill to fake one way, then touch the ball with the outside of their shooting foot the other way. The better the skill move, the more space created; the more space created, the better opportunity to score. Again, whether the ball hits the net or not, our goal is to always put the shot on target. Best to choose 1 skill move to perfect through repetition for this drill and 10-15 shots at the end of every training session is recommended for best results.
