Women in old age are at greater risk of poverty than men

They are likely to receive significantly less in retirement income. In the OECD’s 38 member countries, women’s retirement income is 26% lower. This gap is a product of differences in men and women’s working lives. Women are more likely to have breaks in their work history, for example, from taking time off as unpaid carers or to raise children. This leaves them with fewer savings or a smaller pension pot.
