A woman in Washington survived a bear attack with non-life-threatening injuries after she punched it in the face. The woman was charged by a female black bear outside her home when she was letting her dog out. Wildlife biologist Rich Beausoleil told KING-TV that the woman “didn’t see it coming” so she didn’t have time to scare the bear off. The woman punched the bear “right in the nose” and according to Beausoleil, this was “just instinct for her”. The bear reportedly took off after it was punched and wildlife officers later killed it as it was overweight. Wildlife officers also captured two cubs and took them to a local wildlife rehabilitation center. There has not been a fatal bear attack in Washington since 1974 and black bears have only injured 19 people since 1970.
