World records shattered at Diamond League finals

Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay and Sweden’s Armand Duplantis both set world records at the Diamond League final in Eugene, Oregon. World 10,000m champion Tsegay shattered the 5,000m record, winning the event with a time of 14 minutes and 0.21 seconds. The 26-year-old knocked almost five seconds off the previous record set by Kenyan Faith Kipyegon who set the record in Paris earlier this year. Sweden’s Armand Duplantis was also on a record-breaking trend, clearing 6.23m on his first attempt in the men’s pole vault. It's the seventh time in four years that Duplantis broke the world record, including breaking the record at the same track in 2022. Jakob Ingebrigtsen won his second Diamond League title of the weekend after running the third-fastest time in men's mile history. The Norwegian clocked a time of 7:23.63, finishing one-hundredth of a second ahead of Yomif Kejelcha after the Ethiopian made a late surge.
