1 VS 1 - Winning Goalkeeping Skills 2 • Ages 14-16. Director of South Florida Goalkeeping Academy, Brian Galvin, uses this simple 1v1 drill to emphasize the importance in decision making when coming off the line in a 1v1 situation as a goalkeeper. Having the attacker starting a few yards outside the 6 yard box facing the coach, the coach will play the ball through the legs of the player and then he or she will turn to attack. Once the ball is played, the Keeper then must make 1 of 3 decisions: 1- If the goalie can beat the forward to the ball then he or she will slide in, winning the ball with their hands. 2- If the keeper cannot make it all the way to the ball to make the save with their hands, they should get low in a spread position to block the shot. 3.- If the keeper cannot make either of those saves, they will get in a low, set position and make a reaction save. It is recommended to practice this drill at least 10 minutes a day preferably with a live forward shooting to score.
