In the Vineyard with Paul Hobbs

"As California Pinot Noir vintners continue to expand their vineyard base, there are many viticulture aspects to plan for, including the choice of which rootstock and vine material to use, to irrigate or dry farm as well as the use of cover crops, among others. There is no one-solution-fits-all, as each site and every grower’s approach is different. Paul Hobbs planted his George Menini vineyard in 2015. The 39 acres of Pinot and Chardonnay feature a mix of clonal material on primarily riparia rootstock. His goal is to eventually get the site fully organic, dry-farmed and no-till. In this video, Hobbs explains what he’s using cover crop for, and how he hopes to develop this still-young vineyard."—James Molesworth
