Sleep Position Guide: Maximizing Health Benefits

Everyone has their preferred sleeping position when they climb into bed at night, however, not every position is good for our health. If you struggle with sleep apnea or have existing health conditions like heart disease, some positions are unhealthier than others. Sleeping on your back is healthy for most of us as it keeps your back in the correct alignment, provided you're using the right mattress. However, if you’re pregnant or suffer from sleep apnea it is advised to sleep on your side for comfort and safety reasons. Sleeping on your side offers other benefits too, as although it keeps your spine aligned, it also keeps your cardiovascular system in a neutral position. When it comes to what side you should sleep on the left is most advised, except if you suffer from heart issues as it can cause the organ to shift. Sleeping on your stomach is the unhealthiest position as it can lead to back and neck ailments while also making breathing and digestion difficult.
