Parents Urged To Check iPhones After iOS 17 Update For Safety

Law enforcement agencies are warning iPhone users about the "NameDrop" feature introduced in the iOS 17 update. This includes the Middletown Division of Police in Ohio and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan. The Apple feature enables users to easily share contact information by bringing their iPhones or Apple Watches close together. For their children's safety, the police stress that parents should change this setting on their child's phone. Although users have the option to withhold information, Oakland County Sheriff's Office says many users may not be aware of default settings. The transfer can be canceled by locking the phone or moving the devices apart.
