Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin testified on immigration and homeland security during a hearing before the House Homeland Security Committee on his department's fiscal year 2027 budget request. This was his first time testifying before the House since leaving Congress to replace Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security. Secretary Mullin fielded numerous questions on the impact the partial government shutdown had on the department's operations, FIFA games security concerns, immigration enforcement facility oversight, ICE officer training, and concerns about racism and white nationalist messaging at DHS, which he vehemently denied. The secretary said those accusations led to the decline in trust and increased danger faced by agents. Additionally, some Democratic lawmakers questioned the secretary's temperament and ability to handle ICE protestors.
