Kia & Hyundai Sued Over Viral TikTok Challenge

A TikTok challenge publicizing a technique for stealing certain models of Kia and Hyundai has seen vehicle thefts soar. The challenge involves breaking into the car, removing the ignition cover and starting the engine with a USB plug-in. And now Kia and its parent company Hyundai are getting sued by pissed-off victims who had their cars stolen. A national class action lawsuit was filed against the automakers for a defect that the challenge exposed. The lawsuit alleges that certain Kia and Hyundai models were “deliberately” built without “engine immobilizers.” The critical, inexpensive, and very common device is meant to prevent cars from being hot-wired and stolen.
