10.5 million electric vehicles were sold across the world last year. Almost 4 million more than in 2021. 59% of them were sold in China, where the market grew 82% in a single year despite strict COVID-19 lockdowns. In North America, electric car sales grew 48% even though overall vehicle sales fell. But it still only racked up a 6th of China’s total sales. Europe accounted for a quarter of EV sales, but sales growth slowed to 15% due to the impacts of Russia’s war in Ukraine. EVs now make up 13% of all light vehicle sales worldwide. If we are to reach net zero by 2050, we’ll have to sell 350 million electric vehicles by 2030. Watch the learn more about global EV sales.
