University of Louisville history professor Matthew Goldberg chronicled the 1898 Spanish-American War. Beginning with the sinking of the USS Maine in Havana Harbor, the war lasted from April to December. The 1898 Treaty of Paris ended the war with an American victory and the Spanish losing control of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.
