World’s Oldest Cave Art Discovered In Indonesia

Archaeologists from Griffith University have discovered what may be the world’s oldest cave art in Sulawesi, Indonesia. The researchers say that the painting of a Sulawesi warty pig dates back to at least 45,500 years ago. Previously, the oldest known cave art was thought to have appeared in Europe 40,000 years ago. The painting, which measures 53 inches by 21 inches, is accompanied by two human handprints. Archaeologists have found many intriguing discoveries on the island of Sulawesi. In late 2019, researchers discovered cave art of a hunting scene that dates back to 43,900 years ago. We expect the early rock art of this island to yield even more significant discoveries, Adhi Agus Oktaviana, study co-author and ARKENAS rock art expert
