UNESCO has given world heritage status to an archaeological site in South Africa, putting the stamp on its significance for the origins of humankind. The Pinnacle Point caves in the Western Cape province were discovered during an archaeological assessment for the extension of a golf club and housing estate in the 1990s. Since then, some of the most important discoveries in tracing human behaviour have been made there. And the new listing hopes to bring some extra eyes to the local community.
