New research suggests that your morning cup of coffee may do more than just wake you up — it could lower your risk of serious heart conditions. A study from Soochow University found that moderate caffeine consumption, about three cups a day, was linked to a significantly reduced risk of coronary heart disease and stroke. Participants in the study who drank three cups of coffee or tea daily saw a 48.1% reduction in risk. Researchers analyzed data from 180,000 people, confirming that coffee and tea drinkers had better heart health outcomes compared to non-drinkers. While the findings suggest caffeine's protective role, experts urge caution, noting that the study is observational and cannot prove direct cause and effect. Dr. Gregory Marcus of UCSF advises that, while caffeine may offer heart benefits, more isn’t always better, and high doses — especially in energy drinks — can be harmful.
