Rocky Mountain Power expecting to shut off power for thousands in central and southern Utah due to fire threat

The threat of a fire in central and southern Utah will likely leave thousands of people without power over the weekend. Rocky Mountain Power is warning everyone they’re expecting to make a planned power shutoff starting Saturday at 7 a.m. to Sunday at Noon. It’s not a foregone conclusion the shutoff will happen, but right now that’s what Rocky Mountain Power is planning, and they want to give everyone a heads up. It’s called a public safety power shutoff. A shutoff warning means they plan to de-energize the power lines because of the way the weather is setting up; if the lines were left on, the power lines pose an extreme risk of starting a fire.
