Noah Lyles Reveals COVID Diagnosis Following 200m Final

Team USA sprinter Noah Lyles has revealed that he ran the 200-meter final at the Paris Olympics while suffering from COVID-19. Lyles, who finished in third place in the race, told reporters that he tested positive for the virus in the early hours of August 6. “I tested positive around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. I woke up in the middle of the night just feeling really chills, aching, sore throat. And those were kind of a lot of the symptoms I've always had right before getting COVID, and I was just like, 'I need to test this one,” said Noah Lyles. The 27-year-old, who won gold in the 100-meter race, left the Olympic village following the positive test in order to quarantine at a nearby hotel. Lyles noted that he kept the diagnosis a secret as he “didn't want everybody to go into a panic; we wanted them to be able to compete.” Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, who beat Lyles in the 200-meter semifinal, captured the gold medal in the event, ahead of American Kenneth Bednarek and Lyles. Lyles revealed on social media that he believes the 200-meter final was “the end of my 2024 Olympics," all but confirming his withdrawal from the 4x100-meter relay.
