Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, who is set to star alongside Tom Holland in a West End production of 'Romeo & Juliet', is experiencing racial abuse. The show's director, Jamie Lloyd, shared a statement condemning those who have harassed Amewudan-Rivers and questioned her being cast. "Following the announcement of our 'Romeo & Juliet' cast, there has been a barrage of deplorable racial abuse online directed towards a member of our company. THIS MUST STOP. We are working with a remarkable group of artists," said Lloyd in a statement on X. Lloyd says the abuse must be stopped as his theatre company allows artists to do “creative work without facing online harassment.” Although Lloyd did not mention the cast member in question, Amewudah-Rivers’ Instagram post caught the attention of many online trolls. The production of William Shakespeare’s 'Romeo & Juliet' will run at the Duke of York Theater in London from May 11 to August 3.
