A new security feature called Stolen Device Protection has been added to all iPhones in Apple’s latest iOS 17.3 update. The trillion-dollar company explained that it is an optional feature, but it urged all of its customers to turn it on. CNET’s David Lumb revealed that it requires biometric information to access sensitive settings and information when not in a familiar location. This includes paying using autofill on Safari, turning off lost mode and initiating a transfer of funds from your phone’s wallet. Another feature of Stolen Device Protection is Security Delay, which may require biometric info twice if a user is in an unfamiliar location. Things protected by Security Delay are changing your Apple ID password, resetting iPhone settings and turning Find My off. Your iPhone should ask if you want to turn the feature on after you update it, but if not, open settings, tap Face ID and passcode, and you will find it. Apple notes that Apple Pay can still be accessed with your phone’s passcode despite the update, but says it is another layer of security.
