A grandpa who lost his wife of 56 years could not hold back his tears when his granddaughter surprised him with a blanket covered in photos of their memories together, so that he could feel like they were still going to bed together each night. For more than five decades, Ruben Ramirez, 78, valued the simple things about love and life, taking his wife, Jessie, a cup of coffee every morning and never going to bed angry with each other. But when Jessie passed away aged 94 in July 2024, Ruben, from Kerrville, Texas, found his loneliness extremely tough. He would occasionally still hear Jessie's voice, his granddaughter, Savannah, said, and he wished he could speak to her during the day and would think of her when going to bed at night. And so, knowing how much Ruben missed his beloved partner, Savannah thought she would surprise him with a blanket covered in the couple's memories, so that her grandfather could feel like they were going to bed together. She decided to surprise him on Christmas Day, and as soon as Ruben opened the gift and saw the photos staring back at him – of their wedding, together down the years – he immediately burst into tears. At the bottom of the blanket was a message, "So that she can still go to bed with you," and another that read, "In our hearts."
