Thai food chefs compete in stir fry cooking contests in Bangkok

Thai chefs competed in a stir fry cooking contest to find the best cook of the country's 'pad kaphrao' dish. Twelve teams from six different regions in the country entered the World Kaphrao Thailand Grand Prix 2023, hoping to formulate the best recipe for the dish of holy basil fried with minced meat. Foodies and aspiring chefs flocked to the Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem in Bangkok, Thailand, to watch the three-day event, which included an elimination round on August 25, the semi-finals on August 26, and the anticipated final showdown on August 27. The top spot was claimed by the Khrua Nuea Hom team representing Thailand's northern region. They took home a cash prize of 400,000 THB (11,374 USD). The Jit Sod Chuen team placed second and was awarded 100,000 THB (2,844 USD) while the Raan Baan Thai team secured the third spot and received a prize of 70,000 THB (1,991 USD). The event was organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) as part of its 'gastronomy tourism' campaign, and aimed to showcase the history and culture behind the beloved dish.
