In the US, wind energy just overtook coal for the first time

Wind supplied 47.7 million megawatt hours (Mwh) of electricity in April 2024 while coal provided 37.2 million Mwh. In 2023, the US government forecast that wind and solar would overtake coal this year as the number of coal-fired power plants rapidly declined and the nation embarked on a wealth of clean energy projects. But it didn’t expect wind power alone to overtake coal.
