House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) held a news conference on day 30 of a federal government shutdown, and he and other Republicans again called on Democrats to vote to reopen the government. Speaker Johnson continued to blame Democratic leadership for the ongoing shutdown, saying, "It's their own political survival that they have put in front of the needs of the entire country." He and Republicans also criticized House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' D-(NY) for endorsing New York City Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, with Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) saying of Mr. Mamdani, "He is the face of the new far left coalition." Moreover, Republicans blamed Democrats for the impending possibility of recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) not being able to access benefits.
