Wildfire explodes in San Diego’s Sorrento Valley forcing evacuations

Flames erupted across more than 40 acres in San Diego’s Sorrento Valley June 8, triggering evacuations and a major emergency response near Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. The blaze broke out around 9:30 a.m. near the split between Interstates 5 and 805 and quickly spread at a moderate rate. Evacuations were underway in areas surrounding Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, with officials establishing a temporary evacuation site at Mandell Weiss Eastgate Park.
