Wildlife worker wears bear suit to raise orphaned cub

Wildlife team is currently caring for the youngest black bear cub the organization has ever taken in — After an approximately 2-month-old cub was found weak and alone by campers in Los Padres National Forest, he was brought to San Diego Humane Society’s Ramona Wildlife Center. For 30 days the bear has been receiving round-the-clock attention, with the wildlife team going so far as to wear bear suits while caring for him. . “He was extremely fragile when he arrived,” said Autumn Welch, Wildlife Operations Manager at San Diego Humane Society’s Ramona Wildlife Center. “After going several days without nutrition, it was touch-and-go at first. But now, he’s active, eating well and gaining weight steadily.” The hope is that one day he can be returned to the wild.
