Bill Gates has voiced concerns over Elon Musk's growing involvement in international politics, particularly in the UK and Germany. In an interview with The Times, Gates called it "insane" that Musk has the power to influence political situations, warning about the destabilizing effects of such actions. Earlier this month, Musk called for the removal of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, accusing him of failing to address child exploitation during his tenure as Britain’s chief prosecutor. Musk recently spoke virtually at a rally for Alternative for Germany (AfD), a far-right German political party. He also praised the AfD’s immigration policies in a December op-ed for Welt am Sonntag, calling the party “the last spark of hope for this country.” Gates suggested that countries should implement safeguards to prevent wealthy foreign individuals from influencing their elections. "I think in the US foreigners aren't allowed to give money. Other countries maybe should adopt safeguards to make sure superrich foreigners aren't distorting their elections," said Gates. Musk’s political influence has increased significantly, particularly following US President Donald Trump’s re-election. Musk reportedly spent $277 million supporting Trump and other GOP candidates in 2024 and now leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aims to cut spending and regulations. "I thought the rules of the game were you picked a finite number of things to spout about that you cared for, focused on a few critical things, rather than telling people who they should vote for…If someone is super smart, and he is, they should think how they can help out.
