Ahead of a full House vote on a rule to fund the Homeland Security Department and end a partial government shutdown, Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (CA) tempered expectations that Democrats would support the funding, saying to a reporter, "We gotta see what happens with this rule vote. You're making an assumption that this package passes." He elaborated that Democrats had opportunities at the moment to use their leverage to reform Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following the shooting deaths of protesters Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal immigration agents and growing public backlash to President Trump's immigration agenda. He and Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Ted Lieu (CA) also called for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to be removed from her post.
