World Leaders on How We Can Tackle the Global Water Crisis

On the eve of the first UN Water Conference in over 40 years, global leaders lay out why proper management of water is so essential to the future of our planet, and how we can tackle the global water crisis. “There are still 800 million people in the world who don't have access to clean water, and in fact, two and a half billion don’t have access to sanitation,” says Usha Rao Monari of the UN Development Programme “In my community, to this day, we drink the same water that the cattle, sheep, and goat drink, as human beings, we are drinking it.”, says Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim of the Association for Indigenous Women and People of Chad. “Without water, there is no food, there is no industry. Water, wetlands, and oceans are also our best carbon sinks. So it’s also critically important when it comes to climate mitigation.” as per Henk Ovink, Special Envoy for International Water Affairs of the Netherlands.
