YouTube To Introduce Labels For AI Generated Content

YouTube is set to introduce labels for videos containing "realistic" AI-generated content to prevent viewer confusion. The new policy mandates creators to label content that includes manipulated or synthetic elements, especially when using AI tools. These labels will be required for content that realistically portrays events or people doing things they didn't do. The move aims to address concerns regarding the rise of misleading content created by generative AI tools. "This is especially important in cases where the content discusses sensitive topics such as elections, ongoing conflicts, public health crises or public officials", said YouTube Vice Presidents of Product Management Jennifer Flannery O’Connor and Emily Moxley. Other platforms, such as TikTok and Meta, have also implemented rules to ensure full transparency regarding AI-generated content. YouTube's disclosure policy is expected to roll out early next year, with penalties for non-compliance. The platform will also allow users to request the removal of AI-generated content that simulates identifiable individuals.
