Former FTC Officials, Academics and Attorneys Discuss the State of the Agency

Former Federal Trade Commission officials, antitrust attorneys, and academics discussed the state of the FTC during an antitrust symposium co-hosted by The American Antitrust Institute and George Washington University Law. The conversation centered on the agency's future enforcement abilities following the Supreme Court's recent decision upholding the firing of FTC Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter (D). Ms. Slaughter was fired by President Trump on March 18, 2025, for allegedly not aligning with the administration's priorities. She sued the administration, arguing the FTC Act allows removal only for "inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office."
