New Hair Washing TikTok Hack May Lead To Hair Loss

A new TikTok hack has gone viral recently telling people to not wash their hair for a month, however, experts aren’t sold on the idea. The new hack has been dubbed “hair training” with the idea of scarcely washing your hair will train your scalp and hair to be healthier. The hashtag, #hairtraining, has recorded over 150 million views on the app, with one creator claiming she hadn’t washed her hair in 33 days. Despite people swearing by it's benefits, multiple experts disagree with its effectiveness, claiming that it can lead to hair loss. "For me, the biggest issue with not washing hair regularly is that you could be at risk of developing seborrheic dermatitis, a common skin condition that primarily affects the scalp and is characterized by red, itchy, and inflamed skin," said Fariha Anwar, aesthetic doctor at Euromed Clinic Dubai. A 2021 study found that not washing your hair can harm your scalp after finding that people who wash their hair frequently have healthier scalps. It is recommended to wash your hair at least once a week with people with oily scalps urged to wash their hair as often as once a day.
