Tipping has become a huge part of day-to-day transactions, from coffee to takeout, but since the pandemic, generous tipping has declined. 59% of Americans have a poor view of tipping, according to a new survey from Bankrate. Only 45% of Gen Z consumers view tipping negatively. Delaware, although one of the smallest states in the US, has the highest average tipping percentage, at 22.1%. California, the most populous state in the US, has the lowest average tip at 17.9%, however, it mandates higher hourly wages. Sit-down restaurant tips have remained around the same rate for the last year, at 19.1%, while quick-service restaurant tips are at an average of 16%. New Jersey has the lowest tipping rates at fast-food restaurants, with 13.8%.
